After holding out hope that Ke'Bryan Hayes could rejoin the team during its last road trip, the Pirates aren’t putting a timeline on his return. Just his presence on this road trip is a positive, not only for Hayes but his teammates. https://t.co/JDk84oMlmh
They were swept out of town to San Degio @937theFan: Wil Crowe showed promise, Jacob Stallings got hit in the face, and another update was provided on Ke'Bryan Hayes.
Those notes and more from today's Pirates loss to St. Louis ⬇️
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk says the reexamination of Ke'Bryan Hayes' left wrist brought no new findings, so "positive news." They're assessing if he can field and catch balls.
Source told me yesterday that Hayes should begin swinging a bat again this week.
Per Pirates, 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes got good news from latest exam, is "assessing" if he can play catch and field ground balls and "eventually" will rejoin team.
So, I hope that clears everthying up for yinz.
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said that Ke'Bryan Hayes was re-examined last Friday and it was "positive news." No new findings. Right now he's stretching with the team and assessing if he can field and catch balls.
Pirates sports medicine director Todd Tomczyk:
* Ke'Bryan Hayes was re-examined last Friday. "Very positive news" -- no news findings. At the moment, stretching with team and assessing whether he can catch and field ground balls. Experts agreed on diagnosis and prognosis.
Pirates Dir of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk on Ke'Bryan Hayes-positive news from re-exam on Friday. Encouraging news on Hayes. He's stretching with the team to see if he can play catch and field ground balls
Game 23: Seems like this lineup is what the Pirates will be going with moving forward, until Ke'Bryan Hayes returns at least. Tyler Anderson gets the start tonight as your Buccos look to move over .500. #LetsGoBucs https://t.co/zqSy484vm9
@deepfriedbreaks Dbacks too high
Marlins too low
Nationals too low
Blue Jays more than Rangers
Pirates waaaaaaaaay too low. Peguero may not have autos, but his Chromes will be big. Plus Ke'Bryan Hayes is maybe the best rookie in the product.
White Sox too high
I think that's all
https://t.co/4KvZ8FEWPX https://t.co/2A5yIjKnpG Notes: Hayes doing 'better'; Shelton's gag: The update on Ke'Bryan Hayes was brief but encouraging on Friday. Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Hayes was… https://t.co/5xaBrZ7VQK https://t.co/frZlc67V68 https://t.co/I6c2PhGKKX

Pirates manager Derek Shelton's entire update on Ke'Bryan Hayes (wrist): "He had an evaluation yesterday. He is doing better. We're gonna chance to look at him when we get home."
Ke'Bryan Hayes = ??
Anthony Alford, Dustin Fowler = DFA
Chad Kuhl = injured
Center field and the rotation = scrambled
“Things happen and you make adjustments,” Pirates manager Derek Shelton said. “That’s what we’re doing.”
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes has aggravated his left wrist injury while taking batting practice, delaying his potential return to the majors. https://t.co/DFauHx6ABE
Pirates 3B Hayes has setback with wrist injury: The Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes has aggravated his wrist injury while taking batting practice, delaying his return to the majors. https://t.co/bxIdaHdWNX https://t.co/VOEtFPRyxO
@Pirates They should’ve DFA’d INF, Erik Gonzalez, & pitchers, Luis Oviedo and Chris Stratton. That’ll give Pittsburgh more than enough roster space to bring up Todd Fraizer, retain Dustin Fowler, bring up OF, Ka’ai Tom & still have a free slot for Ke'Bryan Hayes once he comes off the IL.
Pirates say rookie 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes reaggravated his left wrist injury last night while taking "high-velocity" swings off a pitching machine. It happened on same type of swing as before. He will see a wrist specialist in Pittsburgh.
Pirates 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes reaggravated his wrist injury last night while taking swings, per team medical director Todd Tomczyk. He's en route to Pittsburgh to be re-evaluated by team doctors and plan the next step.
The Pirates have been without their top hitting prospect for most of the season, but Ke'Bryan Hayes will make a rehab trip Tuesday to prepare for his return to the majors. From @AlexJStumpf:

As @RobBiertempfel told us on #DiamondDiehards, when Machado was a free agent, the Pirates never even CONSIDERED talking to him, let alone making him an offer.
Consequences: Machado HR, room at 3B for Ke'Bryan Hayes, lower payroll, less wins.

Per Pirates medical dir. Todd Tomczyk, Ke'Bryan Hayes (wrist) swung bat in cage (soft toss) yesterday and today w/o problem. No new pain reported. He's also taking ground balls in field.
Still no timetable for when Hayes will come off IL.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton:
* Ke'Bryan Hayes isn't swinging a bat yet, so there's no timeline for his return even though he's eligible to come off IL on Wednesday
* Wanted to go with a right-heavy lineup against Padres LHP Blake Snell, so switch hitter Wilmer Difo gets a start
Pirates mgr Derek Shelton said Ke'Bryan Hayes (wrist) has not yet begun swinging a bat. That means Hayes most likely won't come off IL tomorrow when he's eligible, although Shelton said no decision has been made yet about that.
The Pirates haven't gotten good results out of their center fielders so far, and with Ke'Bryan Hayes potentially returning soon, it could shake things up in the lineup. From @AlexJStumpf:
Pirates GM Ben Cherington said he still doesn't have timeline for Ke'Bryan Hayes to come off IL: "I still feel good about the long-term prognosis ... we're not going to rush this. He's going to tell us when he feels good enough to start swinging a bat."
Pirates GM Ben Cherington on his radio show said 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes is doing defensive work, making progress. "We still feel good about the prognosis" but "we're not going to rush this." Doesn't have a firm timeline for his return.
Some nuggets from Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk on Ke'Bryan Hayes:
"It's a little too early to say, yes, day 11 he's going to come back."
"So if it's not day 11, it's not day 11."
Update from Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk on Ke'Bryan Hayes: He's doing "limited baseball activities." He's throwing, but he's not playing catch yet. Wrist injury is on his glove side.
Tomczyk said he's "overall encouraged" by the daily improvements.
Pirates say Ke'Bryan Hayes is making progress with his wrist, limited baseball activities--he's not swinging or catching at this moment, but is throwing and keeping his legs in shape. Called it encouraging
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk:
* 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes has limited baseball activities, is throwing (but not catching or swinging) but Pirates are encouraged
* LHP Steven Brault continues to work on range of motion, plan to have diagnostic assessment next week
Small sample size because he was injured, but for all players with at least 50 PA since last season, Phillip Evans is FOURTH in wRC+. Yeah, he's ahead of Mike Trout.
Also, check out Ke'Bryan Hayes! A few reasons for Pirates fans to be happy. https://t.co/V9Zg5ahbp8
3 More Team Affinity cards released today...
Pirates - Ke'Bryan Hayes
Tigers - Niko Goodrum
Rangers - Joey Gallo
Actually surprised with Gallo since he was a Team Affinity card last year, but overall solid choices revealed today
In just 14 innings without Ke'Bryan Hayes anchoring the infield, the Pirates already have made three errors. Yikes!

Loss of Ke'Bryan Hayes hurts on that one. Pirates have infield drawn-in. Hard-hit ball goes through Phillip Evans' legs. It's now 4-2.
Right call to have the infield up there. But that play must be made.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed rookie 3rd baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes on the 10 day IL because of inflammation in his left wrist. X-rays were negative but an MRI showed inflammation. Hayes was replaced by Phillip Evans in the lineup.
AdamRonis: RT @JMackeyPG: So now Ke'Bryan Hayes will go on the 10-day IL. Apparently did some baseball activities not long ago, it didn't feel right, and the Pirates are adding Wilmer Difo. Derek Shelton just updated us.

Pirates at Cubs
Cubs had 2 hits.
Ke'Bryan Hayes went to TaterTown. Will be fun if he and Dylan Carlson battle for ROY honors.
Pirates stole 3 bases.
Baez & Heyward combined 0-8, 6 K's.
Alec MIlls pitched the 9th inning. I thought he was a starter?
Think I'm gonna move my Ke'Bryan Hayes'. What would you think the odds are to have pulled an Orange refractor (/25) for 2019 and 2020 by only opening only one hobby box each year? Any Pirates fans out there? $150 takes the pair and 2 2020 Chromes @CardPurchaser https://t.co/QveC4Tw9iA
.@JMackeyPG our great Pirates insider says on @937theFan that the Pirates offered Ke'Bryan Hayes a deal that bought out the arbitration years and the 1st couple years of free agency. Both sides remain interested in finding a long-term deal.
The Pirates are BETTER than the Fraudgers! I don't know how many times I have to say it! The Fraudgers LOST yesterday to the Rockies. Kershaw sucks! The Pirates DESTROYED the Cubs yesterday. Ke'Bryan Hayes OWNS the Cubs!
I am going to love Ke'Bryan Hayes once the season progresses. But he wasn't the only reason the Pirates won today. If I had to pick the "star of the game" it would be the Pirates Bullpen who were solid for SIX innings while the Pirates had 11 walks and only scored 5 runs.
QT on the Pirates - Cubs Gm 1
- Ke'Bryan Hayes is going to be a problem. @Pirates may have themselves the next face of franchise
- didnt show up entirely but I do really like the @Cubs lineup agst RHP. Some good length. TBD agst LHP
CHICAGO (AP) — Ke'Bryan Hayes hit a two-run homer and Pittsburgh's relievers dominated in a two-hitter, helping the Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 5-3 Thursday on a chilly opening day. https://t.co/Gkiruu3N5h
World Series, baby.
The Pirates pulled out a wild 5-3 win over the Chicago Cubs to open the 2021 season with a victory, featuring a home run by young star third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes. https://t.co/qUfCk5xkTF
